Many people are facing the same dilemma today. Unfortunately, when they get off of work, they come home to find an old, beat up, rust bucket of a car sitting in their drive way. They know the car doesn’t run anymore and they know that it’s an eyesore in front of their home. However, many people don’t know that they can turn this eyesore into a tax write off and even more, a donation to their favorite charity! That’s right, Americans can donate their junk automobiles to charity leading to a great end of the year tax deduction.

I know, I know, many Americans may be thinking, what charity wants my old junk vehicle? And even if they did, what would they do with it? Well, to the surprise of many Americans, a junk automobile can be much more than an old rust bucket! Also, just about any charity would love for people to donate their old junk cars to them. There are actually 2 ways that most charities get money from these cars.

The first way that a junk vehicle can provide much needed cash to charities is by the charity selling it to a salvage yard. Many Americans use salvage yards to salvage great working parts out of vehicles that are no longer running. They pay for these parts as well. Therefore, if sold for the right price, salvage yards will be willing to buy the junk car to make a profit on parts. This process puts money in the bank account owned by the charity and also works out well for the salvage yard.

Another way that charities use a junk vehicles is also my favorite way because it is friendly all around. It also helps the environment. Many charities make the decision to scrap the junk car. This means that instead of selling the junk car donation to a salvage yard, they decide to scrap or recycle the metal in the vehicle and get the cash from that. This is usually the better way because this provides the charities with more cash than salvage yards and it is a great way to reduce wasted metal! Now that you know where automobile donations go and how they are used, the one question that many people will still have is, how much cash will it cost to tow the vehicle donation to the closest donation facility! I’ve got really good news for you here as well! Fortunately, companies that accept car donations usually have a contract with a nationwide towing company and pay all towing expenses. As a matter of fact, Americans shouldn’t have to pay a penny for anything during the process of donating a car!
