It is common knowledge that property owners want to protect their investments as much as possible. Of the many pests that property owners have to contend with, gophers are some of the most destructive. Not only can they destroy the landscape, but they can also cause damage which can lead to injury to both livestock and to humans should they step into a gopher hole or tunnel. This is when gopher control and gopher extermination becomes crucial in protecting the owner’s interests.

Gophers are well known for their excellent ability to burrow and tunnel underground. Those who have studied gopher control have actually concluded that these pests are virtually perfectly built for tunneling, and as such, are able to cause an enormous amount of damage in a short period of time. As they go about this tunneling, the tunnels that leave in their wake cause the upper surface of the ground to become weak and unstable. When people or livestock walk atop these areas, they can easily fall through, causing injury. While humans generally survive these incidents, livestock often has to be put down. The only effective way to remove this threat is to remove the cause through gopher extermination.

Unlike many other pests that take a break during the winter months, gophers do not hibernate. They stay active during the entire year. Likewise, they differ from other pests in that they will burrow not only during the night but also during the daylight hours. This increased activity level means that they can easily achieve tunnel systems between 200 and 2000 square feet! Gopher control is the only way to stop this hazard.

Gophers can breed up to three times each year with each litter having as many as half a dozen pups. Even though gophers prefer to live alone, these pups will stay with the group until they are ready to strike out on their own, which only adds to the problem as they, too, will begin to burrow. Unless effective gopher control methods are employed, gophers can live up to three years. It does not take an expert to see that over time these pests can produce massive amounts of damage to properties.

While stepping into a gopher tunnel is a major health issue, farmers and gardeners also experience issues when they lose their crops and gardens. Gophers do not eat meat; they live on plants and vegetables. Gophers love to eat out the root systems of plants and vegetables which, of course, will destroy the crop. It is has been documented that entire crops have been lost to these pests. But it gets worse. They will also come to the surface and feed on surface vegetation as well. Within a few days, or less, they can devour or destroy an entire crop. Again, gopher control is the only effective way to stop this destruction.

If you are a property owner suffering from the destructive acts of this pest, it is in your best interest to get professional gopher control advice as soon as possible. The problem will not go away on its own. You must take action quickly to minimize damage.

MissionFairmount Automation’s mission is to become the leading provider of survivable process control and automation products for harsh environments. We aim to be the dominant automation equipment OEM for military applications and to consistently gain market share in the worldwide industrial controls market. We intend to follow a path of financially responsible growth that delivers steadily increasing profits and maximizes shareholder value. We will achieve these goals by delivering technologically superior products that minimize our end-user’s overall ownership costs and by fostering a work environment that rewards innovation, hard work, and entrepreneurshipHistory.

Dr. Andres Lebaudy and Mr. Gary Cane founded Fairmount Automation in 1996. They began work on the Company’s first general-purpose product, the FAC-2000, with the emphasis on providing a rugged multi-loop process controller. The main thrust for this effort was to satisfy a need for a versatile controller for automation on combat vessels in the U.S. Navy. In 1997, the company submitted a fully functional prototype of the FAC-2000 to the U.S. Navy to undergo a battery of MIL-SPEC (military specification) tests. Upon passing all the requisite military tests and gaining approval for shipboard use, the Department of Defense awarded Fairmount Automation with a number of contracts to deliver FAC-2000 controllers.Engineers from the Naval Surface Warfare Center’s Propulsion and Steam Machinery Controls Division used the FAC-2000 controllers to successfully overhaul a vast array of navy shipboard applications including: waste heat boilers on Spruance Class Destroyers, distilling plants on Ticonderoga Class Guided Missiles Cruisers, secondary steam machinery controls in the nuclear propulsion plants on Nimitz Class Aircraft Carriers, and propulsion boiler controls on Kennedy and Kitty Hawk Class Aircraft Carriers, Sacramento Class Combat Support ships, and Tarawa and Wasp Class Amphibious Attack ships.During the early 2000s, the Company introduced a new line of programmable automation controllers and began to offer control system integration and installation support services. The company pioneered the use of distributed control technology in damage control applications and became the preferred supplier of smart-valve based automatic damage control solutions. As the Company’s reputation and stature in the Navy community grew, it was rewarded with larger contracts with increasing scope and responsibility. Both its Chameleon product line and engineering design expertise have been highly sought in the development of control systems on new ship platforms such as CVN-78 aircraft carrier, DDG-1000 destroyer, and LCS-1 littoral combat ship.

In 2007, Fairmount Automation was acquired by the Colfax Corporation. Today, the Company continues to serve its customers with the same zeal, enthusiasm, and entrepreneurial spirit that has been a defining characteristic of its success since its founding in 1996.

Fairmount Automation is an OEM of survivable process control and automation products for harsh environments based inNewtown Square,PA. A leading provider of these products, Fairmount Automation delivers innovative control solutions to military, transportation, and industrial automation markets. The company’s products are installed throughout the world, controlling a wide variety of mission-critical and safety-critical processes and machinery.
