There are various companies that are in the business of producing military specification packaging. These companies supply these mil spec packaging materials either directly to various defense agencies or military contractors. The military specification packaging is strict to the quality of the packaging materials produced because these materials are used by the military in hardship conditions and therefore, they need to be durable, sturdy and high quality. Mil spec packaging materials consist of a number of products such as barrier bags, desiccants and VCI papers. These packaging materials can be used for packing food or sensitive equipment that is used by the military in the field.

Barrier bags are particularly very sensitive mil spec packaging. These bags are what the military uses to carry food and other materials that need to be kept intact and moisture free. Most of these barrier bags have quite a number of characteristics that make them perfect for carrying out the above functions. The best way to determine if these barrier bags meet these specifications is by testing of the materials before manufacture.

The term MIL-PRF-121 refers to the performance requirements of the barrier bags. The MIL-PRF-121 performance specifications are directed by the military and these requirements have to be met for the product to be used by the military.

MVTR or moisture vapor transmission rate refers to testing the rate at which the barrier bag material allows the entry of moisture into the bag. A reduction in the rate of MVTR increases the dry storage period of materials in the barrier bag. This is why the mil spec packaging should meet the requirements of having a low MVTR. Barrier bags with high MVTR require a lot of desiccant loading which is less preferred to a barrier bag with low MVTR.

There are also bag integrity tests that are carried out on the mil spec packaging to ensure that they meet the MIL-PRF-121 performance requirements. The bag integrity will test whether the bag has any leaks. This can be done through three ways: submersion, hanging weight and puncture resistance. The submersion test will involve filling the barrier bag with air, submerging it in water and applying pressure to see if there are any bubbles being produced. Puncture resistance will involve probing with steel material while the hanging weight is a test to ensure that the barrier material doesn’t separate.

There are other detailed MIL-PRF-121 specifications concerning the mil spec packaging that manufacturers have to meet when designing materials to be supplied to the defense agencies. Companies that have been involved in mil spec packaging manufacturing have been in the line of production for many years and are reliable for meeting all the above specifications. These companies distribute these products online also. They have perfected the art of meeting these military specifications to ensure that all the products that they produce are high end and reliable. Information on mil spec packaging can also be found from their online sites.

Manufactured products need to be safely packed, labeled and transported. Mil spec packaging standards provide guidelines on how military supplies should be packaged. There are companies that specialize in the production of wrapping material such as MIL-PRF-121 and others.

Packaging materials support commerce in big way. Manufactured products need to be safely packed, labeled and transported. Mil spec packaging standards provide guidelines on how military supplies should be packaged. There are companies that specialize in the production of wrapping material such as MIL-PRF-121 and others. The standards follow guidelines stipulated by European countries and other recognized standardization regions. The aim is to ensure safety and less damage particularly to sensitive military equipment.

Mil spec packaging standards were established to create harmony in the way military supplies are packaged. They help in storage and inventory purposes. Generally, military packaging serve three major functions; primary, secondary and tertiary. The primary function deals with products. Under the secondary function this is where you will find materials such as MIL-PRF-121. Previously, it was known as MIL-B-131 and is of two types, I and II. Under this category you will also find MIL-PRF-131. These are manufactured in rolls and can be cut as per customer specification.

First time military contractors may experience a slight difficulty in identifying Mil spec packaging materials. This need not be a tough option as they can be bought or ordered from suppliers and manufacturers. This is where the tertiary function of packaging comes in. MIL-PRF-121 is available in form of rolls. Customers can buy the entire unit or have it trimmed as per the size of the items they want to pack. The material is highly sought after due to its ability to protect against water and grease.

Mil spec packaging supplies should protect military equipment against corrosion and effects of static electricity. When a military contractor is sourcing for suppliers of Mil spec packaging resources, top rated firms should be considered. Military standards are well defined. An experienced manufacturer needs to guide its clients on the different types of material available such as the MIL-PRF-121. One of the greatest challenges in packaging is the preservation of contents. Manufacturers of these materials are therefore better placed to provide the packaging market with quality products.

MIL-DTL-17667E is another recommended packaging paper. It is non-corrosive and does not react with other chemicals. This makes it a safe option in packaging. Desiccants are normally used to keep wrapped contents dry. Mil spec packaging specifications require some supplies to be wrapped together with desiccants to help draw in moisture. It is not expensive and is relatively safe. Products packed in MIL-PRF-121 paper are usually airtight. Some moisture may be trapped within. A desiccant mitigates moisture when products are stored in huge containers normally transported by ship.

The strict requirements of Mil spec packaging are necessary for two reasons: maintaining long shelf lives and ensuring manufacturers toe the line in producing quality products. MIL-PRF-121 protects contents from spillage especially during parachute drops of supplies to troops in areas where other modes of supply are not feasible. Military contractors should therefore seek to buy these materials exclusively from manufacturers contracted by the government. Depending on the size of the consignment, the desired unit can be obtained.
