<p>Each and everyone of us should be aware that brain fitness is one of the most mandatory things here on earth. In order for us to do good things, we need to think better. And in order for us to have good thinking abilities, we should be able to maintain the good condition of our brains. We should accept the fact that not all of us are doing something to develop our cognitive skills. You know, if you are one of these people, it is still not too late for you to undergo brain training. </p>
<p>Brain training consists different activities that are indeed helpful in keeping the human brain alert. These activities can help you have sharp memory as well. Even if you are still young or if you are already old, you should still keep your brain active. If you want to know which brain training activities will work best for you, you can simply go online and search for websites that are featuring dun brain training activities.</p>
<p>We also need to know about different cognitive skills and abilities. When we hear the word cognitive, we always think about things that are related to brain and other stuffs that are relevant to it. To somehow help you in learning about the most important cognitive skills and activities, here are some of them: contextual memory, updating, planning, eye-hand coordination, response time, auditory short-term memory, virtual short-term memory, working memory, naming, divided attention, shifting, inhibition, spatial perception, visual perception, visual scanning, speed estimation, long-term memory, distance estimation, and focus. </p>
<p>Brain training will help you to understand more about each of these cognitive skills. Do not worry if you think you do not possess all of the mentioned cognitive skills. <p>It has been said that the human brain is the most powerful thing in the entire world and it is also the greatest asset a human being could ever have. It is because of this very reason that brain fitness should be taken seriously by every individual; you do not have to have a degree in neuroscience to be able to learn how to ensure you have sufficient brain health. But before you even go into brain fitness you should at least have a background or basic information on how the brain works and how information is received, processed and interpreted.</p>
<p>They say that the brain works in ways similar to that of a computer. Well, a feature of the brain that cannot be matched to that of a computer is how it the nervous system can completely change its entire structure and function over a life time in reaction to environmental diversities. The changes in question refer to both genetic and behavioral changes. The three main forms of brain plasticity are neurogenesis, functional compensatory processing and synaptic plasticity. Each type of brain plasticity refers to a specific change in your brain that affects your entire body.</p>
<p>Synaptic plasticity is mainly contributed to daily activities; that is things that you do on a regular basis. This type of brain plasticity occurs when an individual is introduced to new learning or experience; the brain immediately establishes neural pathways or circuits which basically act as routes made of neurons that are in constant communication. This phenomenon has been described as a path in a field that gradually forms over time when the same route is used to cut across the field on a daily basis. The communicating neurons follow the pathway and converge at a central location called the synapse.</p>
<p>The reason the neuron have to converge at the synapse is because human beings react to the environment based on their five main senses; you will use your eyes to see, your nose to smell your skin to feel, your tongue to taste and your ears to hear all these are combined when gathering information and the neurons in the nerves found in each of the body parts responsible for each of the five senses have to communicate. Just as the path is formed through repeated use, so must the new knowledge be acquired through repeated practice. Synaptic communication and response is enhanced between communicating neurons and better inter neuron communication means that electrical signals will travel more efficiently long the new pathway.</p>
<p>Each time you revisit the neural circuit and re-establish neural transmission between the implicated neurons each time you revisit the knowledge then the efficiency of synaptic transmission will be enhanced. Despite the fact that there are three types of brain plasticity, synaptic plasticity is the main one because it is the one that is put in motion every time you come across new information. Brain fitness involves the maintenance and improvement of synaptic and cognitive abilities of the brain by exercising the brain.</p>

<p>The brain has the unique ability to alter its chemical, biological and physical properties based on the environmental diversities; this unique feature is what is referred to as brain plasticity. The most visible changes attributed to brain plasticity are the changes in behavior and function. Brain plasticity mainly revolves around new learning and the new learning in question occurs in several different forms throughout an individual&#8217;s lifetime right from the time of birth till the last day on earth. The acquisition of knowledge is probably the most basic and most important cognitive skills every person should have or possess.</p>
<p>However, there are several variations when it comes to new learning which are mainly brought about by age. The level at which the cognitive abilities of a full grown adult has reached cannot be compared to the cognitive abilities of a child or toddler. Children have the ability to acquire new knowledge in vast quantities and their brain records significantly changes during these times of new learning. The cognitive abilities of an individual may also be affected by neurological damage caused by lesions or perhaps stroke; the cognitive skills affected in these cases mainly refer to the ability to acquire new knowledge.</p>
<p>There are several other cognitive abilities or cognitive skills that are of grave importance to the development of a human being intellectually. For example the ability for an individual to memorize and discriminate the actual source of a specific memory; the recall may be inclusive of the specific time, place, people round you at that time, emotion you felt or any other contextual information related to that memory event. For example you might be listening to a song for the first time but it already seems familiar to you; then you remember that you heard the song on the radio on your way to the supermarket but you reached the destination before the song was over.</p>
<p>This kind of ability is referred to as contextual memory. One of the other important cognitive abilities is the brain&#8217;s ability to act in a flexible and adaptive manner in order for the brain to keep up with the changes in the environment. The ability to plan ahead or to anticipate the correct way to perform a task is also one of the cognitive abilities. The ability to perceive a simple stimulus and respond to it is also an important cognitive skill. </p>
<p>There are other cognitive skills such as naming, working memory, updating, eye hand coordination, divided attention, shifting, inhabitation, spatial perception and visual perception among others.
