For your next vacation trip you may have chosen Zermatt as your destination. Zermatt, a village within the Swiss Alps, is a beautiful and popular tourist destination spot. Knowing where you are going is half of the battle. Now that you know where you want to go, you have to decide when you want to go on your vacation. Choosing the time of the year can be crucial for certain locations and you may be wondering what the weather is like in Zermatt.

Zermatt’s infamous mountain, the Matterhorn, is located at an extremely high elevation. In fact, the Matterhorn is the single most highest mountain within the Swiss Alps. Because of this high elevation, the weather within Zermatt is at an average 3 degrees Celsius, always known as 38 degrees Fahrenheit. This being just the average means that the weather can fluctuate during the summer and the winter months. It has been reported that on average the weather during the summer can be as high as 9 degrees Celsius (48 degrees Fahrenheit). During the winter the weather can peak down to a chilling negative 1 degrees Celsius, or 29 degrees Fahrenheit.

Because of these fluctuations, most people would think that people only visit Zermatt during the winter to take advantage of the snow on the mountain. On the contrary, Zermatt’s Matterhorn has snow on it all year round. This means that all of the favorite winter activities are available to be done no matter what the season is.

However, that does not mean that there is not a peak time for tourists to come to Zermatt. Most people come to Zermatt in between the months of November and May. This is because during these months the extra snowfall makes the snowing and the skiing much more enjoyable because the snow is lightweight instead of slippery and icy. One of the trademarks of the Matterhorn is their steep and icy slopes, and between the months of November and May this becomes much more enjoyable to ski or snowboard down. Zermatt Hotels
