Teenagers growing up often experience the most difficult and stressful times in their lives. Physical changes occur during this time which can be stressful for both parents and children. Even though it is difficult, we simply have to be there for our kids and deal with it when the time comes. On the other hand, the teen years will hopefully be full of beautiful memories for everyone. In fact, most adults will look back at their memories as teenagers and realize what a fantastic time they actually had. Unfortunately, the exact opposite is the case for very many people because they were not liked, or were teased, etc.

It’s always hard to see your own child fail at something. Most parents want to somehow do it for them so their child experiences the glory of success. While it may be hard, be prepared for times when you will need to help your child look at reality when it comes to their goals. Tact is such an important thing for every person to learn, but this is especially true when you need to have a difficult discussion with your child. You need to show your confidence in them at all times. Try to maintain a spirit of positivity. If I take a look back at my childhood, I can remember a time when I quit at something because I didn’t think I was good enough. That was a terrible feeling, but the worst part was living with it in the weeks and months after that happened. To avoid as many painful situations as possible, you need to keep an eye on the emotions your child shows when they are participating in anything. First, determine if the child really wants to participate. Be encouraging and let them decide how they feel about participating. Children are the same as adults in that they want to have their own voice and then be more willing to take advice from someone. Even though it may not be easy, it’s a good idea to show your children how they fit into the big picture with their skills and see if there is another way they can succeed.

Parenting has another fun aspect which includes watching your children grow up, and dealing with personality changes that are not so favorable. It can be very disappointing sometimes as you see your children transform in ways that you really wish they would not, but you need to simply do your best to help them mature and move on. Sometimes it gets so bad that many parents don’t even like their kids once they have reached an adult age. As children grow older, these changes are simply going to happen, and you need to, as a strong and positive parent, deal with that fact in the right way. Yes, this can be difficult at times to live with, but the healthiest response is to be accepting and loving toward your children.

One of our greatest parenting responsibilities is to help our children discover their own little lives. Kids will naturally gravitate to those areas that interest them. Success comes for those who have interest and passion, and won’t give up.
