The Human brain has to work around the clock in order to maintain the body in the right conditions through controlling involuntary functions such as walking, breathing. It is able to perform a number of functions even when we are asleep. Although the Brain works around the clock, there are instances where brain activity can improve especially when taking part in tasks that constantly require attention such as doing a crossword puzzle. Brain fitness refers to the ability of the brain to perform overall mental function efficiently. Brain health is normally measured through the brain’s ability to remember details, perform certain tasks calculation and solving simple problems.
Brain fitness can be seen from a person’s speech, how well they speak and express themselves. This is because, talking is a mental process that requires one to think about what they are going to say in advance before the words come out through the mouth. Poor brain health in such situations can be exhibited through hesitation or stammering. There are certain factors that can lead to deterioration in brain fitness , this can be reduced brain activity due to idleness, which is one of the causes of Alzheimer’s
When a muscle is underutilized, it reduces in size. This is because as we constantly engage our muscles in strenuous activities, the body regenerates muscle tissue in order to improve its performance. The same with brain cells, taking part in brain games or mentally challenging tasks causes increase in brain activity and as a result, the brain cells are regenerated at a faster rate.
Certain tasks such as education, have been said to increase brain fealth, individuals with the highest level of education are less prone to mental illness such as Alzheimer’s. This is because this disease is caused by reduced mental activity. Education alone may not be responsible of improved brain fitness, however, it is believed that individuals with higher levels of education get to work in challenging environments and hence the increased brain activity. This reduces the risk of Alzheimer’s disease.
Brain games are one of the many simple ways of increasing mentally ability and brain fitness. This is because they are able to engage the brain in thinking and coming up with ways to score, passive activities such as watching TV do not in anyway engage the brain. It is for this reason that experts advise against spending too much time watching Television.
Brain games helps in improving the mental response time, this is because in a game situation, the brain is constantly required to come up with strategies, solve pending problems and offer solutions within a short time. When one does a certain task for a long period of time, the brain familiarizes itself with it, this is the reason a certain meal can take hours to prepare, but after doing the same thing over and over, we find that we are able to do it without giving it full attention. The amount of brain activity registered the first time reduces. It is, therefore, important to find ways of doing the same common thing we are used to. This is what brain games are all about.
