Have you ever donated an automobile? Are you looking to donate a vehicle in the future? Many consumers would like to donate their cars. However, worried that the process doesn’t allow the donation to result in much for the charity, many people make the decision not to donate their vehicle until they can find out more about the process. Well, that’s why I wrote this article!

Car donations are a great form of funding for many charities. As a matter of fact, most consumers will be surprised by the fact that some charities have arisen to do nothing but process automobile donations for other charities. So, you ask, what is the process that car donations must go through? Well, there are a few steps to the process, here they are:

Step 1: The consumer decides to donate a vehicle – The first step in the automobile donations process is a step taken by consumers not companies. The people decide that they would like to donate an automobile and do a bit of research to find where they are going to donate it. Once the people find out where they are going to donate their car, they fill out the online form or call the customer service phone number to initiate the process.

Step 2: The automobile is transported to the donations facility – The next step that vehicle donations must go through is being transported to the automobile donation facility. Most vehicle donations companies have contracts with nationwide tow companies. This is so that, no matter where the vehicle donation is, it can be retrieved and sold to provide proceeds to non for profit corporations.

Step 3: The car donation is evaluated – The next step is one of the most rigorous steps in the process. The vehicle donation is evaluated at this point to find out how much cash it may generate for the charity it was donated to. It is at this point that the vehicle donation is deemed to be worth being fixed or deemed to be a junk automobile that must be sold as is.

Step 4: The automobile is fixed – Although junk vehicle donations completely skip over this step, cars that are worth being fixed will be at this point. No matter if it is cosmetic or mechanical, the cars that will bring more funding to charities once they are fixed will be fixed and prepared for sale.

Step 5: Junk cars are taken apart – Car donations that are worth being fixed will skip over this step. However, automobile donations that are deemed to be junk cars will be taken apart at this point. Every working part will be extracted first. Once the working parts are extracted, the metal in the frame and non working parts is also extracted and prepared for sale!

Step 6: The sale – Finally, junk car parts are sold and the scrap metal from junk cars will be sold for recycling. On the other hand, the cars that are worth being fixed will be sold either at auction or on an used car lot!

Step 7: The final step – The final step for car donations is handled by accounting. At this point, the money that it costs to process the vehicle donation will be deducted from the total that the donation sold for. The rest of the funds will be sent to the charity that the Americans chose when they donated their cars.

Although, a lot of work goes into processing car donations, the reward is well worth it. The average junk car donation these days results in a charitable donation between $200 and $700 and the average running car donation sells for much more than $1,000! This provides many charities with the cash it takes to do good for the communities they are in!
