When we look at the scientific aspect of astrology, it sort of forms a basis of the traditional concepts used in Indian cultural beliefs. Undeniably, scientific astrology can prove that the planets revolve around the sun in fixed orbits moving around in their own axis. As they do this, they cast rays on the earth at different angles and with different properties. In summary, astrology backs up the fact that the earth is always receiving good or bad effects from various planets. Having this basis, we shall consider famous concepts of Indian astrology like the Nakshatra, Rashis and Lagna.
The Nakshatra in Vedic astrology is what we normally refer to as the constellation. In astrology, constellations have an effect on certain parts of the earth and they form cyclic movements surrounding the earth. Indian astrology believes that there are 27 constellations on earth which form the 12 Zodiac signs. These Zodiac signs are referred to as the Rashis in Vedic astrology. Every Rashi remains in effect in the sky for an average of 2 hours. This means that at any point in time, there is a sign rising in the sky, one after the other every two hours. In Vedic astrology, that sign is what is referred to the Ascendant or Lagna. Every day, a cycle is completed and continues on and on.
Indian astrology believes that the sign at the sky when a child is born determines the childs Lagna. The degree of this Lagna has to be established depending on how long the sign has risen above the sky. This means that at birth, Vedic astrology assigns the Ascendant and the degree of the Ascendant to the child. For the other planets, their placements and degrees are also recorded at birth.
If we look at the 12 signs in a scientific point of view, we can consider them as energy centers around the human body. In astrology, this energy centers absorb, store and transmit the planets energy. When a person is born, there are positive and negative effects registered by the planets on these energy centers. Indian astrology believes that some energy centers of a person may have impressions whereas others may have no impressions. Energy centers without impressions become inactive in the natives lifetime. On the other hand the energy centers with impression are very active in the natives lifetime. This could explain why people have strengths in various fields while they fail to have the slightest interests in others. All this is dependent on the nature and strength of the planets surrounding a persons horoscope during birth.
As a persons life continues, planets register natal effects of different nature and strength giving either positive or negative results to different Natives. The planets can bless one person and cause misery in another persons life. In most cases, Indian astrology believes that if someone is experiencing bad results from a planet, it could be placed weakly in their horoscope or facing interference from a malefic planet. One way of strengthening the good planets is by using gemtones. When good planets become stronger, they can overpower the effects of the harmful planets. The person may use Vedic astrology to decrease the effects of the bad planets through astrological remedies like mantra.
